Dr Macpherson is a leading expert in Forensic Clinical Psychology. He has prepared assessments for the High Court, Appeal Court, and Sheriff Courts, the Procurator Fiscal, Criminal Defence Lawyers, the Parole Board, Mental Health Tribunals, and the Scottish Government, for over 18 years.

Dr Macpherson is an expert in assessing understanding of the Caution, reliability of confession evidence, and competence to stand trial. He is an expert in clinical risk assessment and has peer-reviewed publications.
